When it's not possible to test the alleged father, it may be beneficial to compare the child with a sibling. Unlike a paternity test, two siblings don't always share DNA types in common when considering each marker tested. Each sibling should share half of their DNA in common, but it's not uncommon for two full siblings to not share a number (allele) in common at each genetic location. For a Sibling DNA Test, the comparison relies on the statistics to determine how likely they are related.
Because this is an AccuPlex41 DNA Test, no additional family members are required. Adding the mother, however, will strengthen the results.
| Participants | This test requires two siblings, where the gender does not matter. Including the mother and/or father is optional, but recommended when possible. |

| Results | Because siblings don't always share common alleles at each location, results from a Sibling DNA Test will determine how likely the two individuals are fully related, half related, or unrelated. In most cases, the two siblings know that they share the same mother and want to know if they share the same father. If the father is still alive and a sample can be obtained, it is strongly recommended that a sample be collected from him for comparison to the two siblings. |
